Ideas & Inspiration Documenting Your Life Stories: A Legacy for Your Loved Ones

Documenting your life stories and creating your memoir is a powerful way to create a legacy for your loved ones. Whether it's writing down your memories, recording life stories on audio or video, or simply sharing your stories with your family and friends, preserving your life stories can have a lasting impact on generations to come. We built Memwah due to our parents getting older and wanting to preserve their stories for ourselves and also our children.  We want our children  to know where their values come from, to have their grandparents tell them those funny/ embarrassing/ inspiring stories and to be captured on video so that we can reminisce when they are gone.  So let’s get into why documenting your life stories is so important and how you can go about doing it.

How do I want to be remembered?

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words and that can be true however, can you put a dollar value on watching your loved one tell you that story, their voice, their laugh, their cry, their mannerisms?

Recoding and preserving your life story on Memwah puts you in control of your story.  You are the one telling your stories, your voice, your face, your story.  This is your opportunity to take charge of how you want to be remembered in a meaningful and reflective process that can be kept private or shared with those important people in your life.  Evidence shows us that reflecting on your life can help you process and come to terms with your life, to celebrate forgotten achievements and to share knowledge and wisdom

Benefits of Documenting Your Life Story

As we age we pass through different developmental stages and moving through these stages can be exciting, happy, terrifying, sad, frustrating and enlightening.  This can lead us to question who am I? Why am I here? Did my actions impact others What do I stand for and why?

When we get to this life stage we are asking these big questions and having a tool like Memwah that has preloaded questions (or you can write your own) that can help initiate the process just makes it all that little bit easier.  There is no expensive film crew coming to your house, no audio/lighting techs needed.  All you need to do is load up your page, pick the questions and hit record. All you have learned in your life can be passed down.

Reduce the opportunity for regret and share your life story with your loved ones

Imaging for a moment that your favourite family member did a memwah video for you, how do you think you would feel being able to go back to a video and see and hear them talk about the most important parts of their life, telling that joke, what would that mean to you?  This is the gift that you can give to your loved ones and the time to act is now.

You’ve paid for insurance your whole life, why not insure that your life, your memories are captured, saved and shared with your family and friends?  Reflecting and sharing your life story is a gift not only to your loved ones but also to yourself.  Your stories are important and help shape your loved ones world view, give them insight and shared knowledge and wisdom

Regardless of how you do it, you are important, your story is important and sharing and compiling your story will be a legacy to loved ones that they will cherish forever.
